Reconsider anti-LGBTQ+ adoption bill prioritizing dogma over child welfare

July 20

Opposing the SAFE Home Act: Protecting the Rights and Wellbeing of LGBTQ+ Youth The proposed SAFE Home Act aims to prevent federally funded adoption and foster care agencies from denying or delaying placements based on prospective parents' refusal to affirm a child's gender identity or provide gender-affirming medical care. It enshrines a narrow, biological definition of sex based solely on reproductive anatomy at birth. While purportedly protecting religious freedom, the bill disregards current medical consensus and discriminates against LGBTQ+ families. As an entity dedicated to child welfare, we cannot support policies that enable discrimination and potentially harmful denial of care for youth. We urge reconsideration of this regressive measure that elevates dogma over evidence-based practices proven to support the wellbeing of all children.
