Investigate Trump's unlawful deportations, protect migrants' human rights
To: Rep. Knott, Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis
From: A constituent in Benson, NC
May 21
The contemptuous actions of the Trump administration in deporting migrants to third countries like South Sudan without due process are appalling violations of human rights and judicial orders. It is imperative that Congress use its oversight powers to investigate these outrageous deportations and take decisive action to uphold the rule of law. Allowing the executive branch to flout court orders with impunity erodes the foundations of our constitutional system of checks and balances. Congress must not remain complicit by continuing to enable the administration's draconian immigration policies through funding or lack of legislative restraints. Protecting vulnerable migrants from being shipped off to face potential persecution or violence in unstable regions is a moral imperative that transcends partisan politics. Upholding democratic principles and human rights demands an uncompromising Congressional response to these egregious abuses of power.
