Rep. Keith Self's intentional misgendering of Rep. Sarah McBride during a Congressional hearing was an unacceptable display of disrespect towards the first openly transgender member of Congress. His refusal to properly address Rep. McBride according to her gender identity, even after being corrected, demonstrated a profound lack of decency. Such harmful behavior perpetuates discrimination against the transgender community and has no place in our government. As an elected official, Rep. Self has a responsibility to lead by example and ensure a welcoming environment for all Americans to serve, regardless of gender identity.
