I am writing to urge you to oppose H.R. 86, the NOSHA Act, which aims to abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This bill is a direct threat to the safety and well-being of American workers and undermines the progress we have made in workplace safety over the past decades.
OSHA was established to ensure safe and healthy working conditions for all Americans by setting and enforcing standards and providing necessary training, education, and assistance. The agency has been instrumental in reducing workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
Abolishing OSHA would:
1. Endanger Lives: Without OSHA, employers may neglect critical safety protocols, leading to increased workplace accidents, injuries, and fatalities.
2. Economic Impact: Workplace injuries and illnesses cost businesses billions of dollars annually in lost productivity, medical expenses, and compensation. OSHA’s role in preventing these incidents saves money and protects workers.
3. Health Sector Vulnerability: In healthcare and other high-risk industries, OSHA standards protect workers from hazardous exposures, workplace violence, and ergonomic injuries. Eliminating these protections endangers frontline workers and weakens our health systems.
The introduction of H.R. 86 appears to cater to corporate interests at the expense of hardworking Americans. It prioritizes profits over people, allowing corporations to bypass regulations that ensure safe working environments.
I implore you to prioritize the health and safety of your constituents by voting NO on H.R. 86. The American workforce deserves protection, and OSHA remains a cornerstone of that commitment.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I trust you will act in the best interest of your constituents and oppose this dangerous legislation.
