Protect First Amendment Rights

To: Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker, Rep. Kean

From: A constituent in Great Meadows, NJ

September 18

I am writing to express my concern regarding the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The removal of a program or individual because of the ideas expressed raises serious concerns about censorship and the erosion of First Amendment rights. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech and expression—even when those views are controversial or challenge popular opinion. Comedy, satire, and commentary have long served as essential parts of American culture, providing critique, reflection, and space for differing perspectives. Silencing a platform because of disagreement with its content risks creating a chilling effect on free expression and undermines the democratic principles that protect us all. I respectfully urge you to examine this issue and stand firmly in support of free speech. No matter our political differences, we must protect open dialogue in the media and the arts. Our democracy is strongest when multiple voices can be heard without fear of censorship.
