Oppose the GOP’s Attack on Federal Workers – Strike the FERS Cuts Now I’m a career federal and Navy Veteran employee with over two decades of service and dedication to this country. I’m writing to demand that you oppose the outrageous and unjust provisions in the House-passed GOP reconciliation bill that target federal workers. This bill is not about fiscal responsibility. It’s a billionaire-backed smash-and-grab—an attempt to claw back the earned benefits of middle-class public servants to pad the pockets of the 1%. Stripping the FERS annuity supplement from those who retire before age 62 is a direct assault on retirement security and punishes those who’ve dedicated their lives to public service. Even more disturbing: this cut would take effect in 2028, potentially catching thousands off guard—including those forced to retire early through no fault of their own. The language is vague enough to jeopardize those taking voluntary early retirement offers due to downsizing and RIFs. For many of us, that supplement isn’t a luxury—it’s the bridge between retirement and Social Security, especially after dedicating 20+ years to serving this nation. The $350 fee to file a Merit Systems Protection Board appeal is another disgrace. This undermines due process and punishes whistleblowers and wrongfully targeted employees. It’s pay-to-play justice. Federal workers shouldn’t be forced to pay to defend their rights—especially not when facing retaliation or misconduct by their agency. None of these cuts save any meaningful money in the grand scheme. The $16 billion in “savings” over 10 years barely scratches the surface of federal spending, but would cause lasting harm to the civil service and accelerate the loss of skilled, experienced workers at a time when public trust in government is already fragile. I urge you to: • Strike the provision eliminating the FERS annuity supplement • Eliminate the MSPB appeal filing fee • Defend the earned benefits and due process rights of current federal workers This bill isn’t about balancing budgets—it’s about breaking the backbone of the federal workforce. If these provisions pass, it will be a devastating betrayal of the people who have spent decades serving this country. Do the right thing. Protect federal workers. Vote no on any version of this bill that contains these provisions.
