I am writing to express my extreme concern about President Donald Trump’s recent actions, which have escalated into a constitutional crisis by openly defying a federal court order. This illegal disregard for judicial authority undermines the rule of law and is in violation of the constitution.
On March 15, 2025, U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg issued a clear directive halting deportation flights of Venezuelan detainees under the Alien Enemies Act. These Venezuelans have a legal right to due process. Despite this, the administration proceeded with these flights, disregarding both verbal and written orders. This blatant defiance not only violates judicial authority but also sets a dangerous precedent where the executive branch operates above the law.
The administration’s justification—that courts lack jurisdiction over presidential wartime powers is a lie. The judiciary exists as a coequal branch of government to check executive overreach, as envisioned by the framers of the Constitution. Ignoring court orders erodes this balance and moves us toward authoritarian governance.
We must unequivocally condemn these actions and demand accountability. Upholding judicial authority is essential to preserving our democracy and ensuring that no individual, including the president, is above the law.
