Prioritize public education, protect equal opportunities for all students

To: Rep. Downing, Sen. Sheehy, Sen. Daines

From: A constituent in Denton, MT

March 6

The Department of Education plays a vital role in ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances. Dismantling this agency would be detrimental to millions of students across the country who rely on federal funding and oversight to access quality education. We cannot allow the administration's misguided agenda to undermine the progress made towards educational equity and civil rights protections. Slashing programs like Title I, special education services, and initiatives supporting diversity and inclusion would disproportionately harm marginalized communities and students with disabilities. This regressive move would exacerbate systemic inequities and deny countless children the resources they need to reach their full potential. Instead of defunding public education and funneling taxpayer dollars toward private school vouchers, we must prioritize strengthening our public school system. Investing in public schools ensures that every child, regardless of zip code or family income, has access to a well-rounded education, highly qualified teachers, and the support services they need to thrive academically and personally. We urge you to stand firm in protecting the Department of Education and its crucial role in safeguarding equal educational opportunities for all students. Our children's futures depend on it.
