Congressman Pallone—This Post Should Have Told the Truth About Corruption
To: Rep. Pallone
From: A constituent in Ocean Grove, NJ
May 8
I want to speak directly to your post today; about the Trump family profiting $2.9 billion from crypto deals. What you wrote may be technically true, but it’s strategically shallow—and morally flat. It’s a news report. This isn’t about what the media would do if it were a Democrat, and we know that. This is about how corruption has been normalized, and how your voice—as a senior member of Congress—could be used to interrupt that instead of just reporting on it. As many of the comments point out you’re not focused on educating your constituents on how to critically think about it. Donald Trump has said on multiple occasions that he could profit off the presidency, and now he is. In 2015, he told the Des Moines Register he could “make money running for president.” As president, he made no secret that staying at his own resorts, hosting foreign dignitaries, and redirecting taxpayer money would enrich him. At rallies, he’s openly joked about making deals during his presidency and bragged that being president raised his brand. So when your post talks about crypto corruption but doesn’t name the strategy, cite his own words, or connect this to the lives of people in New Jersey—like the ones seeing their energy bills soar while corruption at the top remains untouched—you’ve missed the moment again. We had a Democratic senator from New Jersey recently indicted while having cash and gold bars stashed in his home. This is not a partisan issue. This is a governance crisis. People here know the system is rigged. They don’t need another post comparing parties. It insults them because people identify with it. They need a leader who names corruption in all its forms and builds bridges across the aisle to shut it down. What you should be asking is: • Why is Trump allowed to monetize the presidency while families in New Jersey can’t keep up with utility costs? • Why does no one in Congress seem to have the courage to write a bill barring self-enrichment from public office—when everyone knows it’s happening? And most importantly: • Why doesn’t your post center voters, taxpayers, and workers, instead of partisan hypotheticals? You are better than this. I’ve supported you over others because I believe in your potential. But this playbook is tired. It’s not what wins states like ours anymore. We need more than commentary. We need clarity. I’ll keep writing. Please keep listening.
