Most blatant corruption yet!
To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Park City, UT
May 19
I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to urge you to take immediate action regarding the Department of Justice’s reported creation of a taxpayer-funded “Anti-Weaponization Fund” connected to the dismissal of Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS. According to recent reporting, the administration has moved to resolve Trump’s $10 billion IRS lawsuit through the creation of a fund of roughly $1.7 billion to compensate people who claim they were politically targeted by government action. Reports also indicate that the fund would be administered by a small commission with broad discretion over disbursements. This raises urgent questions about separation of powers, misuse of taxpayer funds, conflicts of interest, and whether the executive branch is attempting to avoid judicial scrutiny by converting a questionable lawsuit into a politically directed compensation program. I am asking you to do everything within your authority to stop or scrutinize this arrangement, including: 1. Demand the immediate public release of the settlement agreement, legal justification, funding source, eligibility criteria, and oversight structure for this fund. 2. Support hearings and subpoenas to determine who approved the settlement, who may benefit, and whether taxpayer money is being used for political purposes. 3. Support legislation or appropriations restrictions to prevent federal funds from being used for politically motivated payouts without clear statutory authorization and independent oversight. 4. Request review by the Government Accountability Office, inspectors general, and any other appropriate oversight bodies. 5. Publicly oppose any attempt to use the Department of Justice or Treasury funds to reward political allies or settle claims that have not been lawfully adjudicated. Regardless of party, no president should be able to use the Justice Department to settle a lawsuit involving agencies under his own control while creating a fund that may benefit political supporters. Taxpayer money belongs to the public, not to any administration’s allies or grievance campaign. Please let me know what specific actions you are taking to investigate, block, or oversee this fund. I also ask that you make your position public so constituents know whether you support or oppose this use of federal power and taxpayer resources
