URGENT: Concern Regarding Manufactured Election Crises & Executive Overreach
To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Moore, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Clearfield, UT
July 17
I am writing to you today with deep concern regarding the recent address by President Donald Trump concerning "Election Integrity." I believe the claims made during this speech are not only unfounded but represent a dangerous escalation in a sustained effort to undermine our democratic processes. During his address, the President announced the declassification of intelligence allegedly revealing that a foreign nation, specifically China, compromised 220 million U.S. voter files starting in the 2020 election cycle. He used this claim, along with repeated, unsubstantiated assertions of widespread voter fraud, non-citizen voting, and "tens of millions of ballots floating aimlessly," to demand the immediate passage of the "Save America Act." However, the context surrounding these alarming announcements suggests a more troubling motive. These statements appear to be a manufactured pretext designed to justify the invocation of emergency executive powers. Reports indicate that allies of the President have already drafted executive orders intended to declare a national emergency over supposed foreign election interference. Such a declaration would unlock extraordinary presidential authority to seize control of election administration, a move that fundamentally threatens the foundation of free and fair elections. This strategy is not occurring in a vacuum. It follows a series of unprecedented actions aimed at consolidating federal control over state-run elections, including the Department of Justice suing states for unredacted voter rolls and the Department of Homeland Security demanding access to run these rolls through verification systems. The aggressive push for the Save America Act, which would nationalize election administration and eliminate the filibuster to ensure its passage, further underscores a coordinated effort to rig the rules of the electoral process before a single vote is cast. When the stated goal of passing such legislation, as articulated by the President himself, is to ensure his party "will not lose an election for a hundred years," it is clear that the objective is not integrity, but entrenched, uninterrupted power. We cannot allow manufactured crises to be used as a Trojan horse for disenfranchisement and authoritarian overreach. I urge you, as my elected representative, to stand firm against any attempts to bypass regular democratic processes under the guise of an emergency. Congress must act decisively to protect our election infrastructure from federal hijacking, block the passage of the Save America Act, and stop Donald Trump from throwing our upcoming elections into chaos. The future of our Republic depends on your commitment to defending the Constitution and the fundamental right of every eligible citizen to vote.
