Voice your disapproval of the President's proposal for the future of Gaza
To: Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Centerville, UT
February 5, 2025
President Trump's most recent proposal to have the United States take ownership of the Gaza Strip and oversee its reconstruction is an alarming and misguided idea that risks further destabilizing the region. Instead, we should fully support a negotiated two-state solution that allows for an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. This long-standing policy has broad international backing and remains the best path to a just and lasting peace. The Palestinians have an inalienable right to self-determination on their own land. Attempting to forcibly relocate millions of people or place Gaza under indefinite U.S. control would be a grave violation of their human rights and would only breed more resentment and violence. It disregards the Palestinian people's aspirations for freedom and national sovereignty. Rather than unilateral actions, the priority must be reviving meaningful negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians themselves to reach a mutually acceptable final status agreement. The United States can play a constructive role by upholding its stated commitment to a two-state solution and using its influence to create an environment conducive to dialogue and compromise from both sides. The status quo of unresolved conflict, expanding settlements, and deteriorating conditions in Gaza is unsustainable. A negotiated two-state solution based on international laws and UN resolutions is the only viable way forward to secure Israel's future as a democratic Jewish state while fulfilling the Palestinian people's legitimate national rights. I urge a return to this long-standing policy goal. I would like to see you voice your disappointment in the president's proposal and call for your colleagues in both chambers of Congress to do the same.
