Vote no on Todd Blanche's confirmation as Attorney General. He has already demonstrated, as Deputy AG, that he will use the Justice Department as a personal weapon for Donald Trump rather than serve the American people. That is disqualifying, full stop. The record is damning. Blanche brokered an IRS settlement that would permanently shield Trump and his family from federal tax enforcement — a deal a federal judge has since reopened under suspicions of bad faith. He oversaw the botched release of Epstein files that exposed dozens of victims' identities, then refused to meet with those victims while arranging a prison transfer for Ghislaine Maxwell. He pursued a human smuggling indictment against Kilmar Abrego Garcia — a Maryland father unlawfully deported to El Salvador — that a judge dismissed as vindictive prosecution. Over 1,200 former DOJ employees wrote to this committee documenting the destruction, and roughly 16,000 department employees have left. Former pardon attorney Liz Oyer says she was fired for refusing to restore gun rights to a convicted domestic abuser as a political favor, and that Blanche's office sent an intimidating letter to her family's home. You already have colleagues on record. Sen. Tillis called the IRS deal "beyond the pale." Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Cassidy have raised serious concerns about Blanche's independence. Those concerns are warranted. Confirming Blanche hands Trump an Attorney General who has proven he will weaponize federal law enforcement against political enemies and protect the powerful from accountability. Do not let that happen.
