I urge you not to support H.R. 722, which seeks to implement equal protection for "the right to life of each born and preborn human person." This bill is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine reproductive rights and restrict access to abortion services across the nation. The language used in the bill is intentionally vague and open to interpretation, potentially granting personhood and constitutional protections to fetuses from the moment of conception. Such a move would essentially criminalize abortion in most cases, even in situations involving rape, incest, or risk to the life of the pregnant individual. This draconian measure would strip away the hard-won reproductive freedoms enshrined in landmark Supreme Court decisions like Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. It represents an unconscionable overreach of government power into one of the most personal and difficult decisions a person can face. I implore you to reject this unconstitutional and unethical legislation that would endanger the lives and well-being of countless women and families across our nation.
