Demand an open process for choosing Senate Democratic leadership
To: Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker
From: A constituent in Leonardo, NJ
November 4
Tuesday's midterms were a historic victory for Democrats. Voters delivered it because they are done watching Republicans enable Donald Trump's disastrous agenda, and they want a party that will finally make them answer for it.
Chuck Schumer has not been the leader this moment demands. When Republicans rubber-stamped the cuts, the lawlessness and the chaos, Senate Democrats needed someone willing to make them pay a political price. What we got was caution, concessions and strongly worded statements. This country needs a fighter, and Schumer has had years to show us he's one.
A new Congress is about to begin, and you both have a vote in who leads Senate Democrats. I am asking you to oppose Schumer's continued leadership. I am also demanding that the choice of his successor happen in the open. No backroom deals and no quiet coronation. Hold public forums, make every candidate lay out how they plan to hold Republicans accountable, and tell your constituents where you stand and why.
Voters just handed Democrats a mandate. If the same leadership team that failed to use our power in the past gets handed the gavel again, we will waste it.
You both ran on standing up for working families. Now prove it. Please tell me where you stand on Schumer, and what you will do to make this process transparent.
