Dear Members of Congress, We are writing to demand that the House of Representatives take immediate action regarding the serious and documented allegations against Rep. Max Miller of Ohio. Court filings, police records, and more than 2,000 pages of official documents — reported by the New York Times, Mother Jones, and CNN — contain allegations from Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, that he scalded her chest and stomach by throwing hot water at her, held a gun to her head, and pushed her against a wall. Law enforcement and child welfare authorities separately investigated after their two-year-old daughter suffered a broken collarbone described by a physician as requiring “a high degree of impact.” A former girlfriend, Stephanie Grisham — former White House Press Secretary — has also alleged abuse. Rep. Miller denies all allegations and has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife. No criminal charges have been filed. But here is what is not in dispute: these are official court filings and police records — not anonymous claims. They describe a pattern of alleged violence against multiple women and a toddler. And House Republican leadership’s response has been silence. When asked directly, Speaker Mike Johnson said: “The key word there is ‘allegation.’” The same Republican majority that spent years and millions of taxpayer dollars investigating Democratic opponents has nothing to say about a colleague whose ex-wife told police he held a gun to her head. The Giffords organization said it plainly: “Congress is no place for violent abusers who attack their family and hold a gun to their wife’s head.” We demand that the House Ethics Committee open an immediate investigation into the allegations against Rep. Miller, that Republican leadership speak publicly and unequivocally about their standards for conduct, and that Congress pass legislation prohibiting the use of campaign funds to silence misconduct allegations. Silence from leadership is an answer. It is the wrong one. Respectfully,
