I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to urge you to take a public stand and legislative action against the recent ICE and Border Patrol raids in Chicago and Evanston under what has been called Operation Midway Blitz. The reports of agents rappelling from helicopters onto residential buildings, breaking down doors, and detaining entire families—including U.S. citizens—are deeply alarming. This kind of militarized enforcement has no place in American neighborhoods. These operations have traumatized children, endangered lives, and further eroded trust between immigrant communities and local law enforcement. We are told that the mission targets individuals with serious criminal histories, yet eyewitness accounts and media investigations tell a different story: people without criminal records are being detained, families are being separated, and at least one man, Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, has been killed. These are not the actions of a government that claims to value justice, safety, or humanity. I ask you to: 1. Publicly condemn these militarized ICE operations and call for immediate oversight hearings. 2. Support legislation that limits ICE and Border Patrol from conducting raids in residential areas without judicial warrants. 3. Demand transparency from DHS and the Trump administration regarding the planning, scope, and authorization of Operation Midway Blitz. 4. Protect immigrant families and affirm that sanctuary cities and states have the right to uphold humane local policies. We must never allow federal enforcement to operate as an occupying force in our communities. Our neighbors deserve safety, dignity, and accountability—not fear.
