I am writing to express deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where aid restrictions have resulted in the preventable deaths of innocent children. As a state representative, you have the ability to amplify efforts for genuine humanitarian relief and ensure that our state contributes to meaningful action.
The current aid model—led by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)—has proven to be a failure, particularly in a desert climate like Gaza. The GHF’s centralized aid distribution centers force starving civilians to travel long distances in dangerous conditions, exposing them to extreme heat, dehydration, and violence. Our own desert communities, including Phoenix, Arizona, have established emergency relief systems that prioritize accessibility and localized support. Humanitarian organizations in regions like Sudan and Yemen follow similar decentralized strategies, yet GHF insists on a flawed model that prioritizes control over effectiveness.
Israel must allow neutral, third-party humanitarian organizations—such as the United Nations, Red Cross, and Médecins Sans Frontières—to handle aid distribution in Gaza, rather than imposing restrictive policies that have led to chaos, food shortages, and preventable deaths, particularly among children. The U.S. must ensure humanitarian relief is guided by efficiency and expertise rather than political maneuvering.
I urge you to take action at the state level by:
1. Introducing a state resolution urging the federal government to demand Israel remove barriers preventing third-party humanitarian organizations from operating freely in Gaza
2. Lobbying Congress and federal agencies to push for expanded humanitarian access and neutral aid distribution
3. Securing state-level grants or partnerships to assist humanitarian organizations providing aid to Gaza
4. Supporting divestment efforts to cut financial ties with entities profiting from aid restrictions
5. Using your public platform to raise awareness, mobilize advocacy, and amplify voices demanding justice
Time is running out, and immediate action is necessary to prevent further needless suffering. I look forward to your response and to seeing you take a stand for real humanitarian relief.
