The United States House of Representatives passed the SAVE act. It’s up to the Senate to stop this voter suppression nonsense. Republicans would have us believe that undocumented immigrants are voting in astronomical numbers, threatening the validity of our elections. Wrapping their racism in an American Flag does not negate the real reasons they desperately need to pass this bill. Voter ID tactics suppress the rights of any citizen voter whose names no longer match their birth certificates: 1) married women who took their husband’s surnames 2) Muslim converts who adopted religious identities 3) trans men and women living their new identities 4) some adoptees 5) persons who have been granted new identities for safety reasons These are regular people who deserve regular rights. Stop the SAVE act. The only thing it’s meant to save is conservative values and pseudo-Nazi propaganda.
