An Open Letter

So, let me get this straight. As of earlier this week, there was a plan to pass a reconciliation bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, especially ICE and CBP. Then a billion dollars was added for security, including the billionaires’ ballroom and things started to go sideways. Then the White House and DOJ announced a two part “agreement” including (1) a $1.776 billion slush fund to pay off people who allege they were lawfully targeted by DOJ signed by a DOJ official who represented Trump allies, and (2) a waiver of any authority to audit Trump’s tax returns or recover any unpaid taxes from Trump, his family or businesses forever (signed by Todd Blanche, Trump’s prior personal criminal defense lawyer. The seconf part may have gone even further as other “claims” are also apparently waived. Then the feces hit the oscillating fan. Thursday there was a hot meeting where close to 50% of GOP Senators challenged the legality, the morality, and the intelligence of those deals. And abruptly Senate and House votes on the reconciliation were abandoned for now under threats from within the GOP and the House and Senate were sent home early. Simultaneously, a House vote on the War Powers Resolution which already passed the Senate 50-47 was also tabled, because as Rep. McGovern said the GOP lacked the “guts or balls” to hold the vote. GOP members of Congress threatened to “kill” the deal, called it “Stupid on Stilts,” “morally wrong,” and other negative comments. Democrats went with “thug fund,” and “a ballroom too far.” You however have not defended or opposed publicly the use of taxpayer dollars to pay off those who attacked the Capitol, sought to undermine the peaceful transfer of power, and violently attacked police officers doing their jobs, people who were found guilty unanimously or admitted guilt. So tell us publicly whether you stand with America taxpayers or insurrectionists, with ordinary Americans or tax cheating Trump businesses, for struggling families or for a billionaires’ ballroom. You shouldn’t be afraid to speak your mind. Do you stand to benefit in some way from the thug fund? Or are you just too afraid to say what you think?
