Condemn RNC's undemocratic tactics, protect student voting rights

To: Rep. DeLaney, Sen. Taylor

From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN

July 19

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is actively defending efforts to restrict voting rights and undermine free and fair elections. In its recent brief, the RNC endorsed Indiana's ban on using student IDs for voting, falsely claiming it does not discriminate against young voters. This law disproportionately disenfranchises college students, with data showing 70% of student voters at Indiana University Bloomington in 2020 were under 21. The RNC's arguments prioritize vague claims of "election integrity" over the constitutional rights of eligible citizens to participate in democracy. No credible evidence of widespread voter fraud exists, yet the RNC supports restrictive voter ID laws that create unnecessary barriers, especially for younger Americans. This is part of a disturbing national trend, with at least 20 GOP-led states enacting measures to suppress student voting access. Defending discriminatory laws that disenfranchise entire communities is antithetical to democratic principles. The right to vote freely is fundamental, and efforts to erect hurdles for partisan gain must be condemned. I urge you to reject the RNC's undemocratic tactics and instead advocate for policies that protect and expand voting rights for all eligible citizens, regardless of age or student status. Our democracy depends on the free exercise of this sacred constitutional right.
