Oppose GHS Funding Without Reform

To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Edwards, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Candler, NC

February 1

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose any Department of Homeland Security funding that fails to impose strict limits on federal immigration enforcement agencies. Recent tragedies in our community are a direct result of systemic impunity and abuse. I ask that you use your power to demand accountability by taking the following stances on appropriations legislation: Reject any bill that increases funding for immigration enforcement or detention. The existing system has led to preventable deaths in custody and widespread reports of abuse and neglect. Support funding only if the legislation: Freezes or reduces funding for these agencies. Bans profiling based on race, language, accent, workplace, or location. Prohibits enforcement at sensitive locations like churches, schools, and hospitals. Ends family detention and blocks the expansion of private detention facilities. Halts the domestic deployment of border personnel and curtails their expanding role. Congress must insist on these crucial limits and oversight before approving any further resources. Please stand up for the safety, dignity, and rights of all people in our communities.
