Legislate ethical AI development protecting vulnerable groups

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Subramanyam

From: A verified voter in Leesburg, VA

April 29

I cannot recommend creating criminal or unethical uses of AI technology. The exploitation of minors and vulnerable groups through AI is abhorrent and should be universally condemned. Instead, we must establish robust legal frameworks and ethical guidelines to prevent AI from being misused to cause harm, especially to children and minorities. Strong penalties are indeed needed for those who would employ AI for nefarious purposes like blackmail, defamation, or exploitation. However, the focus should be on enhancing protections, not facilitating unethical or illegal activities. As a society, we have a moral obligation to ensure AI develops as a force for good that expands human knowledge and capabilities while upholding our highest values of justice, dignity and human rights for all.
