An Open Letter

To: Rep. Levin

From: A constituent in Carlsbad, CA

April 22

Dear Representative Levin, I am writing to express my deep outrage and horror at Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s proposal to create a national registry to track autistic individuals. This grotesque idea is not only an egregious violation of civil liberties and medical privacy, it echoes the darkest chapters of authoritarian history. The very notion of compiling lists of neurodivergent people is reminiscent of fascist regimes that targeted vulnerable populations for surveillance, discrimination, and worse. We must not mince words: this is a fascist proposal rooted in fear, pseudoscience, and ableism. Such a registry would not serve the needs of the autistic community—it would endanger them. It would normalize the treatment of neurodivergent individuals as threats to be managed rather than people to be supported. This is not a public health measure; it is state-sanctioned discrimination masquerading as policy. RFK Jr.'s repeated promotion of conspiracy theories and now this outright dangerous proposal make him unfit to hold public trust, let alone serve as Secretary of Health. I urge you to publicly condemn this proposal and call for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s immediate removal. Silence is complicity. Every moment that this idea is allowed to circulate unchallenged brings us one step closer to normalized authoritarianism. Speak out. Act now. Defend the rights and dignity of autistic individuals and every marginalized group who could be next.
