No One Should Be a Trillionaire: Institute a Wealth Tax

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Wittman

From: A constituent in Glen Allen, VA

June 12

There should be no such thing as a trillionaire. There really shouldn't be such things as billionaires, but trillionaire should be just out of all comprehension. But the news is reporting that Elon Musk may be the world's first, with SpaceX going public. No one person should have that much wealth. No one person should have that much power. It's both dangerous and grotesque. You must raise taxes on the ultra-wealthy and institute a wealth tax to ensure that they pay their fair share. If Elon Musk and all the people like him actually paid a meaningful portion of their wealth in taxes, there would be nothing this country couldn't do. We could fund everything we want to fund, from healthcare to education to transportation to defense to the arts. Billionaires and -- apparently -- trillionaires are nothing more than modern-day dragons, sitting on their hoards. Their wealth does not do the rest of us any good -- but their tax income sure could.
