An Open Letter

To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Biggs, Sen. Graham

From: A constituent in Pelzer, SC

April 15

I am asking for you to oppose SC S.1095. This bill should not be passed because it is a direct assault on the will of South Carolina voters and a dangerous overreach into the personal lives and medical decisions of individuals. To restrict the access to reproductive healthcare, access to abortions, to any of these people, to do so will kill South Carolinians. Any abortion ban is a direct threat to the lives of women, but to also nix exception in cases of rape and incest is absolutely cruel. If a 12-year-old wanted to adopt a baby in South Carolina, she would not be allowed to do so but if that same 12-year-old is sexually assaulted and that assault results in a pregnancy, she would be forced to carry and birth a rapist’s baby. How is this logical? I am asking you to act on the behalf of your constituents and do the right thing. As a constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose this legislation and to continue advocating for policies that promote fairness, equality, and opportunity for all South Carolinians. Thank you for your time.
