Social Security, in reality, has been one of the most successful programs in American history. Before it was instituted in 1935, roughly 50% of elderly Americans lived below the poverty line. In 1959, 35% of Americans aged 65 and older were poor. By 2019 that number had plummeted to 9% thanks to Social Security. In 2023, around 71 million Americans received benefits from the Social Security Administration. We all pay into SS, it’s our money! Recent news of Elon Musk wanting to fire SS federal employees, close much needed branch offices and basically disrupt the entire ecosystem (including payments) makes this a CRISIS that must be dealt with! "Social Security keeps 18 million seniors out of poverty every year. Trump and Musk are lying about it for one reason: so they can cut, privatize & dismantle it. We must EXPAND Social Security benefits, not cut them. And I am introducing a bill to just that," announced Senator Bernie Sanders. Please do everything in your power to STOP this madness. Musk and Trump are really becoming unhinged, dangerous and will disrupt the ENTIRE fabric of our society! Please do something.
