Vote for the Senate DHS funding bill that excludes ICE and parts of CBP. The Department of Homeland Security has been shut down for over 70 days, and emergency funding runs out Friday, May 1. TSA agents and Secret Service personnel are about to miss paychecks again.
The Senate has passed this funding bill twice with unanimous support. It funds the critical parts of DHS while excluding ICE, the agency whose immigration crackdown killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis in January. TSA agents screen millions of travelers daily. Secret Service agents just stopped a gunman at the White House Correspondents' dinner. These people deserve to be paid for protecting us.
Republicans claim Democrats are blocking DHS funding, but the Senate bill has bipartisan support and would pass the House immediately if Speaker Johnson allowed a vote. The two-step approach Republicans propose just delays payment to essential workers while forcing through funding for an agency that has proven it cannot conduct enforcement without killing American citizens. Put the Senate bill on the floor and pass it this week before the congressional break.
