Vote Against Bills Killing The internet

To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd, Rep. Harris

From: A constituent in Concord, NC

December 12

There is a large list of bills under consideration right now that claim to "Protect Children Online," that do very little to do so, while also causing enormous damage to the internet ecosystem. Weakening encryption will fundamentally make online banking, communication, and other actions unsafe and untenable. Requiring "age ID verification" is an extreme violation of privacy, and puts an extraordinary pressure on smaller businesses, further centralizing the internet. So many of these bills open the door to wanton censorship in the hands of politicians that want to abuse them. And if you think that's "okay" because Republicans are in power now, consider what will happen when Democrats take office. Sunsetting 230 is a horrific mistake. Section 230 should be extended. Bills such as KOSA, Take it down act, earn it, Cooper Davis, and STOP CSAM are all horrificly misguided legislation that will cause enormous damage while protecting nobody. These must be voted down.
