The recent actions to remove non-discrimination protections based on gender identity undermine the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's mandate to safeguard all workers' rights and foster inclusive workplaces. Eliminating recognition of transgender and non-binary individuals' lived experiences enables discrimination against a vulnerable community. True labor rights must extend to every person regardless of gender identity or expression. Employers and the government should expand - not contract - civil rights protections to uphold equal opportunity and respect for the full diversity of the workforce. I urge the prioritization of non-discrimination policies that protect the dignity of LGBTQ+ employees and provide recourse against unfair treatment or hostility based on who they are. Only by defending the rights of all can we achieve justice and equity on the job for all individuals.
