Republican lawmakers in Ohio appear disconnected from their constituents by pursuing an extreme agenda to criminalize abortion and IVF treatments. This outright ban disregards the fact that over 60% of Ohioans believe abortion should remain legal in most or all cases, according to a 2022 poll. Overriding the will of the electorate on such a personal and consequential issue is undemocratic. Ohioans deserve representatives who respect their values and priorities, not an aggressive minority intent on imposing unpopular policies. I urge you to listen to your constituents and focus on the real challenges facing our communities instead of waging ideological battles that most Ohioans firmly reject. Furthermore, Ohioans have expressed frustration with gerrymandered districts that distort the will of voters and facilitate legislation that is out of step with the majority's values. This proposed abortion ban, coupled with the lack of fair representation, exacerbates the disconnect between lawmakers and the people they are meant to serve. Ohioans expect their representatives to uphold democratic principles and honor the clear desires of their constituencies.
