This proposed legislation seeks to impose harmful restrictions on schools regarding transgender and non-binary students. It would prohibit the use of students' preferred names and pronouns, effectively forcing educators to misgender and deadname these youths. Such policies create an unwelcoming and unsafe environment that negatively impacts the mental health and well-being of LGBTQ+ students. Numerous studies show that affirming a transgender child's identity is critical for their development and reduces risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Furthermore, the bill undermines parental rights by preventing families from being notified about any policies related to their child's gender identity or expression without their consent. This is a clear violation of parents' right to make decisions regarding their children's wellbeing and upbringing. I urge you to reject this discriminatory legislation that targets a vulnerable group of young people. All students deserve to feel safe, respected, and supported in their learning environment regardless of their gender identity or expression. Protecting LGBTQ+ youth from harm should be a paramount concern. Please stand up for the rights and dignity of these students by voting no on this misguided proposal.
