As your constituent, I am writing to make my position clear: ICE should be abolished entirely.
Yesterday, the Senate stripped the DHS funding bill from the spending package. Senators Murray and Cantwell are negotiating the accountability measures you claimed were important—warrant requirements, body cameras, restrictions on roving patrols. They have leverage because they voted NO. You voted YES and removed yourself from the negotiation.
In two weeks, a revised DHS bill will return to the House for a vote.
I expect you to vote NO on any DHS funding bill. Period.
If the bill includes the accountability measures Senate Democrats are demanding, you can vote NO and explain that while reforms are progress, your constituents deserve better. If the bill does not include meaningful reforms, you can vote NO and explain that you were right to demand accountability all along.
Either way, the strategic choice is clear: listen to your constituents and vote NO.
