The Thirteenth Amendment prohibits slavery, except “as a punishment for crime.” But people in immigration detention haven’t been convicted of anything—and are still being forced to work for nothing. This is yet another example of how ICE and CBP are violating Constitutional rights. Geo Group's, who runs Delaney Hall and other detention camps, gets federal contracts and uses federal funding. By having detainees work in their camps, Geo Group's is using federal funding to directly violate the Constitution. Enough is enough! The Republican dominated Congress has exacerbated this problem by giving billions of dollars to ICE and CBP without insisting they abide by the law. Not the federal contractors that ICE and CBP are using are also violating the Constitution. Are we are are we not a Democratic Republic that is ruled by our Constitution and laws? For the party that constantly yells about being the party of law and order, Republicans seem absolutely fine with violating any law or Constitutional mandate if it suits their purposes. You and your party are a complete Farce.
