I am writing this email as one of your many constituents in Western North Carolina. I am not someone who often writes or calls my members of congress, but I’m afraid recent events have left me no choice. If this were simply a matter of policy disagreements, that would be one thing, but the current collapse of our governmental structure is perhaps the most alarming thing I have ever seen. I am urging you to do your job as a senator and provide necessary checks on the President of the United States and his lawless administration. He is flouting our constitution, ignoring judicial orders, and deciding to pretend as if due process does not exist. You are a part of a co-equal branch of government. There are powers that congress alone has been afforded and he is running roughshod over them and expecting you not to do anything. This is tyrannical and beyond terrifying. I just want to know, if Joe Biden or Barack Obama had decided that Enrique Tarrio did not deserve due process and whisked him away to a prison in a foreign country and then claimed he did not have the responsibility to return him, would you and he other Republicans in Congress be as meek and mild about it? If Joe Biden or Barack Obama decided that they did not need to listen to the Supreme Court and could ignore them whenever they wanted, would Congress let them? Republicans would never stop howling about the injustice, and they would be exactly right to do so. Why aren’t you doing it now? We are at a precipice. A critical stage in how we are going to handle a tyrannical executive. It does not matter what the president’s political party is…tyranny is tyranny! Do your job and hold him and the entire executive branch accountable for this lawlessness. I do not want DOGE and Elon Musk poking around in my IRS records. I do not want to worry about US Citizens and people here legally or illegally not having access to due process. I do not want our president saying that the US Constitution does not really matter, that he can do whatever he wants and nobody would ever dare to stop him. This is a crisis. You are either someone that helps to stop it or someone who is complicit in the collapse of the United States. Be on the right side of history. Do the right thing.
