Reject harmful Medicaid cuts harming Iowans

The proposed One, Big Beautiful Bill Act would result in drastic cuts to Medicaid funding and introduce strict work requirements that could leave millions without essential healthcare coverage. An estimated 700,000 Iowans currently rely on Medicaid, and this legislation threatens to strip away this vital safety net, jeopardizing access to care for our most vulnerable citizens. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that 7.8 million Americans would become uninsured under this bill's provisions. In Iowa alone, projections indicate a drop of 90,000 Medicaid enrollees by 2034 and an additional 69,000 uninsured individuals. Rural communities would be hit especially hard, with many struggling hospitals facing potential closure due to lost Medicaid revenue. Rather than addressing waste through punitive measures that create harmful bureaucratic barriers, we should focus on strengthening and expanding Medicaid to ensure all those eligible can access the healthcare they need. Protecting the well-being of our communities means safeguarding this essential program from reckless cuts driven by an agenda to fund tax breaks for the wealthy. I urge reconsideration of these misguided and detrimental policy changes that will inflict severe harm on Iowans.
