I am writing as your constituent to share the devastating financial reality my family faces due to the severe gaps in our healthcare system. We are a hardworking household living barely above the poverty line, and we are being crushed by the cost of staying alive.
I am currently battling serious medical issues: I have two diagnosed meningiomas, and I am undergoing a biopsy for breast tumors. Managing these conditions requires continuous imaging, specialists, and invasive procedures. What makes our situation so critical is that we are doing everything right. We have a very good healthcare marketplace insurance plan, yet the out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, and coinsurance remain completely unmanageable.
Because of these medical bills, my family is forced to make impossible choices every single month. We regularly decide whether to pay rent, buy groceries, or pay for the life-saving diagnostic tests and treatments I need. No family should have to choose between basic survival and healthcare, especially when they already maintain premium health insurance.
Marketplace plans are not enough when healthcare institutions and pharmaceutical companies are allowed to charge unchecked, astronomical prices. I urge you to fight for systemic reform by supporting Medicare for All, ensuring every American has comprehensive, guaranteed coverage. Furthermore, we need strict controls put in place to cap what healthcare institutions can charge for services and what pharma can charge for life-saving prescriptions.
Thank you for your time, leadership, and attention to this urgent crisis affecting your constituents.
