The modern USPS, an independent agency, was officially created by the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970, signed into law by President Richard Nixon, transitioning it from the Post Office Department into a self-sustaining entity. Now, the USPS is preparing to push back as Trump moves to dissolve its leadership and bring the independent agency under his administration’s control.
