Prepare for ice to target us; give us actions we can do to prepare
To: Mayor Payne
From: A constituent in Olympia, WA
January 27
There is a good chance you are already working on this, but I'm writing to say i fully support preparing for if ice targets us next, to be prepared to defend our citizens, declare a state of emergency, activate the national guard, and even work with other blue states to have an agreement to help each other with this. We are only one year in to the trump presidency and they continue to escalate and escalate, it isn't going to stop here and they won't magically become more reasonable. We need to be prepared for this to get a lot worse and have systems in place to easily activate, not be scrambling to react to them targeting us. I hope we can partner at least unofficially with local military, and help them be prepared to respond to orders to suppress our people; target ice agents with things like tickets for not having license plates; incentives for building owners and car rentals to NOT lease to ice; trained inspectors to review ice detention facilities and slap all kinds of fines on them; pass laws to make it all kinds of illegal or at least _huge_ fines for detaining people without certain safe guards (size of cell, water, food, etc, ability to access free speech with reporters, must allow access to due process, etc) which could be selectively imposed only on ice; something that would enact harsh penalties on those who take Washington residents (not citizens) without going through proper channels, including confiscation of their leased property; and so on. Let's get creative. Thank you for all you are doing! This is going to get tougher. Call on us as citizens when you want us to do something. We need to come together and feel useful and be given direction to take ACTION. The people are scared, angry, and will take action anyway, so giving productive means to do so that builds towards something, and not just acting out, is really important. Thank you again!
