Reform immigration system, restore human rights and due process.
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL
June 11
The Trump administration's aggressive immigration enforcement measures have sparked widespread concern and unrest across the nation. Recent reports indicate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has escalated arrests, detaining not just undocumented immigrants with criminal records, but also students, visitors with visa issues, and even lawful permanent residents involved in protests. Alarmingly, data reveals that a significant portion of those currently detained, around 44%, have no criminal history aside from entering the country without proper documentation. ICE defends these arrests as "collateral damage," but such indiscriminate targeting undermines due process and erodes trust in law enforcement. Furthermore, the deportation of individuals like Kilmar Abrego Garcia, despite court rulings recognizing the error in his removal, exemplifies a disregard for judicial authority and human rights. The revocation of student visas for those engaged in peaceful protests also raises concerns about infringements on free speech and academic freedom. In light of these deeply troubling developments, I urge you to take immediate action to halt illegal deportations and uphold the fundamental rights and liberties enshrined in our nation's laws and values. Comprehensive immigration reform that prioritizes humane treatment, due process, and ethical enforcement practices is desperately needed to restore integrity to our immigration system.
