Don’t disconnect the communities who depend on public media
To: Sen. Crapo, Sen. Risch
From: A constituent in Boise, ID
July 11
The House has proposed rescinding $1.1 billion in funding already approved for public media, which amounts to just $1.60 per person per year. Enacting this cut would devastate local stations, especially in rural and underserved areas where some could be forced off the air entirely, cutting off access to trusted information, emergency alerts, educational services, and local journalism that millions rely on daily. While modest in cost, this funding is vital for maintaining public media's essential role in keeping communities safe, children learning, and citizens informed. I urge you to remove this harmful proposal from the rescissions package and reject any effort to defund public media that would leave whole communities in the dark.
