Please stop Trump from destroying NATO and causing permanent damage to the US

President Donald J. Trump has moved from inflammatory rhetoric to explicit threats against a NATO ally, including economic coercion and use of force. Worse, the authenticity of a message from President Trump to Norway’s prime minister has been confirmed, asserting the US must have “complete and total control of Greenland” because the Nobel prize committee in Norway failed to give him a Peace Prize. This is dangerous and shows he suffers from a corrupt and deteriorating state of mind. Greenland and Denmark are protected by NATO, which represents our collective defense, of which US and Denmark are founding members. The President has also confirmed his intent to impose coercive tariffs on our allies and to leverage NATO obligations to serve his irrational demands. In threatening a NATO ally out of personal pique and greed, the President is damaging NATO and the deterrence he pretends to seek. If the US attacks or coerces NATO allies, our alliance collapses and outcomes the President claims to fear are realized as the EU is then forced to kick us out of military bases in Europe and go to economic and military war against us. At a minimum, his irrational actions will cause a trade war and permanent damage to transatlantic security. As he blusters and rattles sabers, Denmark and other EU countries are forced to build military presence in Greenland in response to U.S. threats, which distracts them from Putin’s war against Ukraine. The Russian press is ecstatic! The Constitution assigns Congress authority over war, trade, and appropriations to prevent ignorant, impulsive, reckless, or corrupt executive decisions from harming our country. Allowing Trump to do this puts us on a path to isolation, instability, economic weakness, permanent loss of credibility, and war. As your constituent, I urge you to act immediately by: 1. Publicly repudiating any attempt to seize or coerce control over Greenland. 2. Sponsoring and passing legislation or a War Powers resolution prohibiting the use of U.S. forces against Denmark, Greenland, or any other ally without explicit congressional authorization. 3. Blocking funding for any military, intelligence, or economic action intended to coerce Denmark, Greenland, or any other ally. 4. Holding immediate oversight hearings on the President’s conduct, decision-making, mental stability, and fitness for office. 5. Reaffirming U.S. commitments to NATO and the post–World War II rules-based international order. 6. Insisting on a full immediate release of the Epstein files as required by federal law to stop this pedophile protector’s insane campaign to create world-destroying distractions. Silence is assent. History shows unchecked executive power in foreign affairs leads to catastrophe and President Trump is well down that road. Congress is the last constitutional guardrail, and you must act courageously with your colleagues to stop his crazy train. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
