Florida Homeowners Need Relief from Rising Insurance Costs Dear Senator/Representative, I am writing as a Florida homeowner to express my concern about the continued rise in homeowners insurance premiums. I own a single-family home, yet my insurance costs have increased dramatically over the past several years, placing a growing financial burden on my household. While I understand that Florida faces unique challenges related to hurricanes and other risks, it appears that insurance companies have been given too much freedom to raise rates with limited accountability. Many homeowners are paying significantly more each year even when they have never filed a claim, maintained their property responsibly, and taken steps to reduce risk. The promise of recent insurance reforms was that stabilizing the market would eventually lower costs for consumers. However, many homeowners have yet to see meaningful relief. Instead, premiums continue to climb while insurers report improved financial conditions. It is difficult not to conclude that policyholders are being asked to bear an unfair share of the burden. I urge you to support legislation that: Increases transparency in insurance rate-setting. Strengthens oversight of premium increases. Requires insurers to demonstrate that rate hikes are justified by actual risk and losses. Ensures that savings from legislative reforms are passed on to consumers. Protects homeowners from excessive and unjustified premium increases. Homeownership is becoming increasingly unaffordable for many Floridians, not because of mortgage costs alone, but because of skyrocketing insurance premiums. Florida families need a fair insurance market that protects consumers as well as insurers. I respectfully ask that you make insurance affordability and accountability a priority during the next legislative session.
