I am writing to urgently request that you advocate for the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a physician and director of Kamal Adwan hospital in the Gaza Strip, who has been imprisoned for many months by the state of “israel” without being formally charged. Dr. Safiya is reportedly being subjected to severe mistreatment and torture while in detention. He also suffers from a serious heart condition, and his health has deteriorated to the point that his life may now be in imminent danger. Continuing to hold a critically ill medical professional under these conditions, without charge or due process, is unconscionable. A petition calling for his release has already received the signatures of members of the U.S. Senate. I am asking you to join them and use your position to demand his immediate release and ensure that he receives appropriate medical care and protection from further abuse. Medical professionals who dedicate their lives to saving others should never be treated as tools of war. Doctors and hospital directors should be protected for the humanitarian work they perform—not imprisoned, tortured, or targeted because of their role in caring for patients during conflict. Whatever political or military disagreements exist, the people providing lifesaving medical care must not become pawns in those conflicts. This is an urgent humanitarian and human-rights issue. Every additional day Dr. Safiya remains detained under these conditions could have irreversible consequences. His serious heart condition makes immediate intervention particularly critical. I respectfully urge you to publicly call for Dr Safiyas’ immediate release, ALONG WITH ALL OTHER MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, raise his case AND ALL OTHERS with the appropriate government officials, and use every available diplomatic avenue to help secure his freedom and safety. Please do not wait until it is too late. His life is at risk, and urgent action is needed now. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for taking whatever action you can to help secure his immediate release.
