Just Say No to Jeffries
To: Rep. Lee
From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV
November 5
Dear Representatives Lee and Titus,
As your constituent, I am writing to express my views regarding the upcoming House leadership selections for the 120th Congress. While Representative Hakeem Jeffries has launched his candidacy for Speaker of the House, I urge you to consider alternative leadership options during the internal Democratic Caucus elections on November 18.
I am deeply concerned that Representative Jeffries' current strategy does not place enough emphasis on maintaining strict constitutional accountability regarding the executive branch. Furthermore, a lack of transparency regarding past private meetings, such as his closed-door discussion with Jared Kushner, raises significant questions for progressives who expect open and communicative leadership.
While Representative Jeffries is a valued member of Congress, I believe this pivotal moment demands a different leadership approach. I strongly encourage you to nominate Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse for Speaker of the House. Representative Neguse has demonstrated a strong dedication to constitutional checks and balances. If he does not choose to seek the gavel, I ask that you support an alternative nominee who will fiercely defend legislative oversight when the full floor vote occurs on January 3. Thank you for your time and your service to Nevada.
