Demand Proper Vetting of Administration Appointments

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 9

You have failed to properly vet the administration's appointments, and Americans are paying the price for your negligence. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are negotiating nuclear policy with Iran despite lacking basic technical competence. Nuclear experts have identified fundamental errors in their assessment of Iran's Research Reactor, including confusion about how reactors operate and what they can do. They chose not to bring nuclear technical experts to Geneva negotiations and skipped technical talks in Vienna entirely. Witkoff admitted he's not an expert but claimed competence anyway. This incompetence has real consequences. Iran offered to turn over 460 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% during negotiations, but talks collapsed when the U.S. and Israel launched a joint attack instead. A federal judge just ruled that Trump's appointees to the New Jersey U.S. Attorney's Office are serving illegally because they bypassed Senate confirmation. Chief Judge Matthew Brann warned that criminal cases could be thrown out as a result. This follows the illegal appointment of Trump's personal lawyer Alina Habba. Your constitutional duty is to advise and consent on appointments. Start doing your job. Demand qualified nominees with relevant expertise and insist on proper confirmation processes. National security depends on competence, not loyalty.
