Remove ICE From Maryland Airports Immediately

To: Gov. Moore, Sen. Gile, Del. Bagnall Tudball

March 31

Remove ICE From Maryland Airports Immediately You need to take immediate action to remove ICE agents from Maryland airports. The March 22, 2026 arrest of Angelina Lopez-Jimenez and Wendy Godinez-Lopez at San Francisco International Airport shows exactly why immigration enforcement has no place in civilian travel hubs. ICE agents refused to show badges when asked by other travelers and conducted an arrest that caused a 30-minute tarmac delay, disrupting operations for hundreds of passengers. This creates chaos in spaces where security and efficiency are critical. Airports are already strained by TSA staffing shortages, and adding immigration enforcement only makes travel less safe and more unpredictable for everyone. The Trump administration's directive to deploy ICE agents to airports for TSA staffing issues crosses a dangerous line. Immigration enforcement should not be mixed with transportation security. These are fundamentally different missions that require different training and accountability standards. Pass legislation that explicitly prohibits ICE operations in airports except in cases of immediate national security threats verified by multiple agencies. Airports must remain safe, neutral spaces for travel, not enforcement zones that create fear and operational disruptions.
