Oppose the Attack on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 19
I'm calling on you to oppose the Utah congressional delegation's attack on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and protect this landscape from privatization and industrialization.
This nearly 1.9 million acre monument just completed a land-use plan in 2025 after more than two years of collaborative work with Tribal Nations, state and local governments, and the public. That process already incorporated community input. Undermining it now threatens the recreational access, wildlife habitat, and fragile watersheds that thousands of Utahns depend on.
Three in four Utah voters support maintaining Grand Staircase-Escalante's national monument status. That includes a majority of Republicans. This isn't a fringe position. Your constituents want these public lands protected for hiking, camping, off-roading, and climbing, not carved up for short-term extraction that benefits a handful of corporations.
Stop this destabilization effort. Public lands belong to all Americans, and we expect you to defend them instead of enabling their destruction.
