Support Residence-Based Taxation Act for Americans Abroad

To: Rep. Subramanyam, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Bristow, VA

February 2

I support the Residence-Based Taxation for Americans Abroad Act introduced by Representative Darin LaHood. This bill would modernize the outdated citizenship-based taxation system that unfairly burdens the millions of Americans living and working overseas. Implementing a residence-based system would align the United States with international norms and end the double taxation many Americans face simply for residing outside the country. As an American abroad myself, I have personally experienced the excessive compliance costs and challenges caused by our current tax laws. This commonsense reform is long overdue to ease the financial strain on overseas Americans and remove barriers to banking access that the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) has created. I urge you to cosponsor and advance this important legislation to finally provide tax fairness for the American diaspora.
