The official state autopsy for 18-year-old Nolan Wells was performed by Mississippi Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Staci Turner. She also conducted the official state autopsy for 21-year-old De'Martravion "Trey" Reed whose death in September 2025 was ruled a suicide. Dr. Staci Turner will now oversee the hanging death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune. There is no question about what her final reporting will say about Tasia’s unfortunate demise. All three of these deaths have three things in common. First, all victims lived in Mississippi. Second, all deaths fall under the purview and authority of Dr. Staci Turner. Finally, all victims are Black. What happens to Americans in one state is a tragedy to all Americans across the country. These violent and untimely deaths have not gone unnoticed. As a voting constituent of the great state of Maryland, I call on you to utilized the power MY vote has afforded you to publicly call on the two, white Republican Senators of Mississippi Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith to support independent autopsies of all these victims, request and fund a federal task force to review other cases of these “Strange Fruit”, and offer support to the victims families. Should an independent autopsy and/or a federal task force find these deaths to be actual suicides then our federal government must find the monies to support the mental health and overall wellbeing of all citizens including those in Mississippi. An injustice to anyone deemed minority in this country cannot stand and with MY VOTE, I will hold you accountable to doing the right thing for as many Americans as possible.
